Neidhart Rubbers
I bought a 1985 Gyro at the Barbers Vintage Days meet. It will not stand up straight. After dismantling The Joint shaft I discovered the Neidhart Rubbers appear to be formed incorrectly. I presume they are supposed to be round. At least that's the way they appear in the manual. I have been searching now for over a week for replacements to no avail. I feel there are others who have experienced this condition. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have never opened a pivot case, so the schematic is the only referrence i have... 
I believe the Neidhart Rubbers have no part in making the Gyro lock into position.
My understanding is they are more to cushion the end of the arc made by the swing...I really am assuming here...
You say the Gyro won't "stand up straight"...
I believe that function is controlled by the "swing lock plate" & the "swing lock shaft"...
66SIX or mousewheels would have first-hand knowledge to help you...shoot a pm to them,
or RE-post under Technical column with a title more descriptive, i.e. -- "Gyro Pivot Locking System Questions"
I have a parts Gyro with all parts intact pertaining to your problem that i will gladly sell to help you fix it...

I've been into a couple failed Gyro pivots, yet never for failed limit stops.
Here's a pic of the assembly. As you suspect, they should be round. If no longer round, and taking apart the assembly is fun, try rotating them 90 degrees.
If not the pivot assembly is often reasonably priced (for Gyro parts) on eBay and it's an easy swap.

That was my original post. After reading some responses, I wonder if the rubbers are the real problem?
The condition I am experiencing is the bike falls to one side or the other when at rest. I may have wrongly assumed it was the Neidhart rubbers. What exactly is the mechanism that causes the bike to stay upright? I have a shop manual, but it does not explain this. I have the joint shaft apart and I can't see anything broken or out of place.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

The "swing lock plate" is item #8 in the "JOINT SHAFT" PARTS FICHE...AND IS ONE OF THE PARTS RESPONSIBLE FOR LOCKING THE SWING.
The "swing lock pawl" is item #6 in the "JOINT CASE" PARTS FICHE...AND IS THE SECOND PART RESPONSIBLE FOR LOCKING THE SWING.
I hope this second explanation clears that up for you...

Gyros stay in an upright, vertical position ONLY when LOCKED into place by the parking brake.
If the parking brake is NOT LOCKED, the gyro will NOT stay vertical.
ONLY the parking brake mechanism is responsible for keeping the Gyro upright when at rest...
Neidhart rubbers have no purpose other than to cushion the contact point at each end of the swing arc....

Thanks Mike,
That's the answer I was looking for. I'm not that familiar with this scooter, but after removing the lower swing joint housing I have learned much. Especially with the engine in the bike. The shop manual says to remove the engine which would make the job much easier.

Barbers is a great event. It's always in October. Lots of scooter parts. My friends and I have a vendors site on row A. I hope more people will come, although it is usually sold out. There is also an auction, races, and of course the swap meet. Let me know if I can be of any help.
