spree wont start

Post by ripsaw »

hey everyone, i have a 86 honda spree that was good to me last year, i have pulled it out this past spring and it wouldnt and still wont start, the only time it will run is if you have your finger IN the carb. when i put my fingers OVER the carb they are very wet. last year before i put it away it ran great and i had it overhauled with new top end, new clutch bearings, wheel bearings, and belt. we haved tried alot to get it going ived tried a replacement bi-starter that was from a motorcycle junk yard. if any one has any ideas i would really like to get her on the road again. let me know if any one knows whats going on or has any ideas. thanks

Take a look at the fuel control valve under the tank. When you put a vacuum on the bottom hose gas should come out of the top hose. The fuel control valve can get stuck. It needs a good spark, compression, and the right amount of fuel to run.

1st verify the petcock works. You should be able to get fuel out of the top port by sucking on the bottom port. You need 5 lbs of vacuum at most. You can use a mighty mite or your mouth (your lungs can generate 15 lbs of vacuum easily.)

If it's not working that's what you need.

If it is, you need to

1) Check that the bystarter works. Do you know that the junkyard one's working better than the one you replaced?
2) Are you getting fuel/carb cleaner through the idle jet? Bet you're not if it won't start and the petcock's working.
