spree wont start
hey everyone, i have a 86 honda spree that was good to me last year, i have pulled it out this past spring and it wouldnt and still wont start, the only time it will run is if you have your finger IN the carb. when i put my fingers OVER the carb they are very wet. last year before i put it away it ran great and i had it overhauled with new top end, new clutch bearings, wheel bearings, and belt. we haved tried alot to get it going ived tried a replacement bi-starter that was from a motorcycle junk yard. if any one has any ideas i would really like to get her on the road again. let me know if any one knows whats going on or has any ideas. thanks
i drained the gas and took the petcock off and sprayed it with carb cleaner and am soaking it in premium gas for a few days like it says on the tech bullitin. when i had it off i was sucking on the vaccum tube how much pressure do you need to suck the gas out of the petcock, my neighbor said it shouldnt take much so im just wondering if me sucking on it would do it or if i needed to hook it up to something let me know thanks much
my prayers werent answered, after i soaked the petcock in premium gas for 2 days and tried it out and still didnt work. my neighbor said when he had the carb apart he check it and it flowed fine but i thought that i would give it a try because others suggested it and it didnt fix it. should i go get a different carb from the motorcycle junk yard and try that????? any one got any other ideas please help thanks
1st verify the petcock works. You should be able to get fuel out of the top port by sucking on the bottom port. You need 5 lbs of vacuum at most. You can use a mighty mite or your mouth (your lungs can generate 15 lbs of vacuum easily.)
If it's not working that's what you need.
If it is, you need to
1) Check that the bystarter works. Do you know that the junkyard one's working better than the one you replaced?
2) Are you getting fuel/carb cleaner through the idle jet? Bet you're not if it won't start and the petcock's working.
