Jog Spring Dimensions, fitted on 86 stock bike info

Post by ClemSpree »

Some info for you Spreetards:) Enjoy:)

Bought and installed the 1k springs as mentioned here:
viewtopic.php?f=4&t=28049&p=244232&hili ... gs#p244232

Took actual measurements of all, Length, Dia, Wire dia all in mm
Orig. 29.35, 8.7, 1.55
Blue 31.26, 10.3, 1.77
Red 32.47, 10.51, 2.0
Yellow 31.86, 10.56, 2.04

I simply hit with a hammer on a piece of wood until the top bent over a bit and then cut of the extra to get them shorter. I did nothing about the fact that they sit on the shoes because of their increased diameter, you may be able to trim it out a bit to get them to fit but it really doesn't touch much.

Almost imperceptible delay in take off now but much better because the old set up would start just above idle. A little chatter at first but seems to be clearing up, could use a new belt and I may have grease on something.

Not bad for $14 and I didn't have to screw my stock springs although you can probably get the same results by shortening them.

The next time I'm in there, I'll probably make some more clearance for the increased diameter, use higher rate springs and shorten a little more properly.

Pics to follow...

Got a PM re: installing springs, figured I'd post my response:

I just hooked the one end and used vice grips perpendicular to the other and pulled sideways. Dont clamp too tight with the vice grips though.

You might also be able to do it with string/fishing line that you cut out after installation.

Finally, if you can get something in between the coils, i.e. dimes, pennies, etc, you can temporarily make them longer and then remove after installation.

I've got a bunch of jog springs and Zuma springs. I've found Zuma springs to be a direct fit.

??? In the thread listed above you mentioned that you had purchased the jog springs and made them work. Are the zuma springs a recent discovery?

They were a discovery by accident. Ordered a set of malossi springs that were for a Zuma. I also have a bunch of jog springs I bought on eBay. They also drop right in. I have the yellow jog springs in now.

Polini makes 5 sets of springs, you also have change the center spring, to bad you can't afford a stage 6 clutch, just drop in the springs and dial them in one turn at a time using an allen wrench
some people dream of speed, i own your dreams!
