Unfortunately, putting on the stock airbox and lid is not an option...I had to cut half of the stock airbox off to accommodate the big bore kit and carb...so going back to stock isn't feasible. It is currently set up to run with a Unifilter sock filter on it......which is what I was told to run when I modified stock to big bore.

So it looks like I need to check the reeds now......is that correct?

Are you premixing oil in the tank along with the oil pump? Does it go full throttle when you first run it from cold and it gets worse as the motor heats up? Do you have a cylinder head temp gauge? A cht is almost a necessity when breaking in a big hire kit. Has the break in procedure been followed? Are you trying to run it wot with out breaking it in a bunch first. Gotta seat the rings a bunch before really running it under too much heavy load.

OK finally got the airbox lid on and now it is doing much better. However. It will only run under a load with the air intake holes taped closed at about 75 %. I'm wondering if the problem is the auto choke.

Something is real lean. Unless you have a serious air leak around the bystarter (auto choke). Usually a bystarter failure will go rich or just stay closed making hard to start cold. What jet is in the carb again? Maybe its clogged with something. Jets can get clogged up when you least expect it
