85 spree big bore kit installation

Post by BJurgens »

I just purchased the 48 mm big bore kit for my 85 spree, if any of you guys that have already done this, or a similar procedure, give me some tips! Let me know what to expect, and if you had anything that hung you up, let me know what you did to overcome it! Thanks guys, all your opinions and advise is appreciated

Did you get the carb set up to go with the bbk? My first advice is to follow the break-in procedure verbatim and follow the included instructions to the letter. Make sure you run the premix in the tank per the instructions. Its a great upgrade that really wakes a spree up :-)

I bought it from chop chop, and I asked him if I needed to get the carb that he sells as well. He said that with the 87 main jet he sends with the kit, it should run like a dream. I was just wondering if you knew where I can get more main jets, in case the 87 is still too lean?

What ever he told you is gonna be what works. He has done the homework with his kits. But nothing wrong with picking up a few extra jets to dial in that set up if need be. Chop chop is tazland001 here on the board. He sells quality stuff :-)

Another quick question, I'm seeing some stuff on the forum about modified heads with the BBK, am I going to be able to run the stock head just fine?

How am I going to go about doing this? I'm working on it in my powersports tech class, so I have pretty much any tool at my disposal

Actually pauly you are incorrect. I send 2 base gaskets in every kit to give you the clearance you need for the head. So you actually don't have to lathe the head to 48mm. It adds a little bump to compression and the port timing is still good. You can do the head if you want as indicated in the instructions.

I thought that one was a base gasket and one was the head gasket?

Head gasket is metal and the base gaskets are cardboard paper.

Alright, cool cool. Also, I know it has nothing to do with this post, but I was looking at some stuff on the forum about the se50 motor swap. Where would I start looking for one of these to see prices? Or if you have a good idea of what one may cost.

if you going to swap engines do the sa50 engine swap. Much better results and more parts. Post on wanted to buy or try to find a beat up elite sr 94-2001 on craigslist. Then you can just swap away.
