Honda Express SRish project

Post by JohnRobHolmes »

I had halvsies on a UK Scoopy scooter with my buddy. Helluva fun and comfy ride! But he didn't want to share any longer and offered a running noped in trade. Its a mutt of a bike, the pic tells the tale better than words. As much as it pained me to let go of the scoopy, this little bike was too much fun to let pass by.

NC50 "express" frame, welded on addition to hold gas tank
Express SR engine NX50
Express SR front end
Express SR seat and fenders
random expansion pipe
pitbike tires

The carb is stock, other than getting rid of the vacuum choke system and putting a dirt bike filter on. Right now I just turn the filter around and block the intake to choke it, but I want to try a manual vacuum system.

The exhaust is some random moped pipe that was welded into place. I don't like where the exhaust exits, it makes me stink like 2smoke on my right side. I'll cut the silencer off and mount it below the expansion chamber with a downturned exit so the smoke hits the ground instead of my back. The wife doesn't get turned on by exhaust smell

The shock lower clamp was extended 100mm to adapt the SR rear end to the express frame.

Under the seat houses a small lithium battery to clamp the stator voltage so the bulbs dont burn out. I measured 88v peak on the full coil and 55v at the mid tap at full revs! with the battery it tops out at 14v or so. The next move is to hook up the starter motor so I can be super lazy. I just put a diode on the high side, and the battery negative is clamped to frame ground.

Once I get the starter hooked up and the pipe modded, I may throw a kit on it. I have a water cooled kit that would work. I would match it with a 15mm carb or maybe even the stock one so that the crank wasn't in too much danger. I don't really need more speed, but it would be nice to have a bit more low end torque and ability to ride all day without worrying about temps.

Goes 35mph as it sits, and gets there fast! Super light, super small, and a hoot to ride around.
