1986 HONDA SPREE 50 will not start

Post by cindan96 »

I have a Honda spree that I put new rings, piston, carb, gas tank, fuel pump and it will not start. I cannot get vacumn from the new carb ports to operate the fuel pump. What is the proper routing for the fuel pump and oil pump lines. Also the kick start lever gets stuck on the down position, how do I assemble the start gear and spring. it appears the spring is getting under the gear and popping out the c-clip on the outside of the case. does the spring need to be winded up a turn before assembly

Mouth vacuum is enough to get the fuel to flow. 10 seconds is more than enough to get enough fuel in the float bowl.

Kicker gears are notorious for failing. Its hard to tell from your description if they are mis-assembled or worn out.

the kick start gears appear good, the spring somehow ends up under the kickstart gear . the lever then sticks in the down position. how much tension does the spring need on it

Sounds as if you have an aftermarket carb, see below.
What is the proper routing for the fuel pump and oil pump lines

The middle hose at the vacuum fuel valve is the *Fuel* outlet, bottom line is vacuum.

----
A) A stock Spree has no vacuum port on the carb. There are two ports on the intake to which the carb mounts.
The port closest to the engine is for oil, the top most is vacuum.

B) Aftermarket carbs *may* have an extra port on the carb (metal right angle tube fitting about 1/2 way up the slide, 180 degress opposite the idle speed screw). The extra port is not a vacuum source, it is an oil injection port. There is not sufficient vacuum at the carb oil port to open the vac fuel valve.

-- Fix either way --
You can plug the carb oil port, and use the 2 OEM ports, OR plug the intake oil port and move the oil line to the carb.

When you assemble the kick starter in the case, be sure that you have installed the washer AND a good snap ring on the outside of the case. Without the washer, that is how the spring gets under the gear.
