Tuned performance pipe for Spree...

I asked the seller of that pipe for some dimensions. I don't want to spend $30 and learn the thing is tiny the hard way.

I'm seriously looking into a Hobart Handler 140. Are you just using it with flux core wire, or did you go and lease/purchase a bottle of CO2/Argon/CO2 mix?

Also, would it be alright if I sold performance pipes for SE50's/Aero 50's around here, made from eBay pipes? It looks like a few people have those around here, and a performance pipe from VTcycles is about $150, I believe, and I could make and sell them cheaper than that. That engine is unique, isn't it, since it has that angled exhaust port?

I've used both flux core and MIG, thicker stuff requires the flux core. MIG is cleaner. I have a bottle of CO2/Ar mix.

Build some pipes to sell. Free country mang.

I'm seriously condsidering buying and trying that pipe from eBay. I just don't want to cut my muffler apart, though the flange is broken and leaks. I'll have to buy another muffler.

The seller just hasen't gotten back to me on dimensions, and I doubt if they will. Their feedback isn't so good, either.

I have been reading this long 9 page thread about a new pipe for a spree, is jetting of the carb required to run this pipe, could this help out the bike at lower speeds if the pilot jet was swaped out?

Rejetting doesn't seem to be necessary for this swap. Playing with the air filter is what requires jet changes. Jetting won't change your launch, either.

It seems to have faster launch when its cold, not sure why that would be.

Like when i start it up. BTW, i took that pipe off and dermeled out the blockage and the extra weld on the downpipe-- the crappy one i sent u to work with.

That seemed to make it go back on the the spree easier dunno if it did anything to performance.

I have a 1985 Iowa Spree. The emissions labels says it is a 1985 HON GK80049 MOTORCYCLE, E1. I have read plenty of conflicting information about the Iowa models and how the exhaust is intentionally restricted. Many posts talk about removing a washer or drilling it out. However I don't believe that the 1985 model uses a washer for restriction. I believe that the downpipe itself without any expansion chamber is how it is restricted. If this is the case, will this downpipe be a suitable one to cut off and send to noiseguy; or is it too small? The outer diameter of the downpipe is .975" and the inner diameter of the downpipe at the flange is .735". Here is a picture.

its not the downpipe, because non-IOWA modles are exactly the same, other than the restrictor.

If it has the washer, I can get it out.

That pipe looks fine. Cut it off close to the expansion chamber, I'll take care of the trimming the rest.

Hey noiseguy, ever try the oversized pistons i sent you, it may help that pipe you are trying to sell along with a larger carb? the stock down tube is restricted just look at a stock elite-s exhaust, the engine mount pattern looks real close, just cut & splice it.

You read my mind... a 21mm downpipe would be more appropriate than the current 19mm, even with the 49cc displacement. Light porting of the exhaust would allow the engine to breathe a lot better.

Why get the washer out? I would think leaving it in improves the seal... during my recent baffle aeration, I checked the "washer" and it seems almost like its the actual exhaust pipe coming thru the flange.

On another note, you still making the exhausts?
