My Spree engine runs.....BACKWARDS????

It just acts like the timing is not correct. I am aware you can't adjust it but are there any other parts that would have an effect on it. I did try a different CDI unit without much luck. There is a solution to this and its probably an easy one. 2-cycle engines are not rocket science yet this one will not run correctly.
Any chance the woodruff key is missing on the engine? That would screw up the timing.

Okay; I looked at my engine. The electronic pickup can be move a little left or right when the bolts are loosened. A little filing with a small rat tail file in the mounting tab holes to eggshape the holes would allow more movement. You may have to file the tab down with a flat file to clear the engine case. This would allow for several degrees of timing. Move toward rotation to advance. Away from rotation to retard. Chuck
