Should I be afraid to open my scooter up?

That fan just has some rubbing on the face from when the fan shroud came loose one time. Other than that, it is fine.

I just installed that, and since it is too dark and rainy out to go give it a test ride, I will do it tomorrow and report back yo see what happens.

If both fans turned clockwise, the fan on the left would push the air (and not effectively) and the one on the right would scoop the air which I believe is the correct way; scooping air.

I don't understand why they would be different, unless of course another engine turns the opposite direction. If that is the case, whoever I bought that from shouldn't list it as being for an SA50

Ive been accidently posting on this and jetting thread, but im trying to concentrate on the running hot issue right now.

The exhaust is newer. I bought it new, but I also ran it for a short time before I built up the Corsa. I'm not sure how much use is in it. The scooter had 1900 miles, and over 1000 of that was on the original engine.

st another thought . would it make any sense to install air filter cover that came with the Polini? I would think that even if it was drawing too much air, you would be able to compensate with the main jet?

- after this, I put the filter cover on and went for a ride. I didn't have a super long stretch to keep it wot to see how long it would go or how it would get, but I got to run it for maybe a half mile each way with the cover on.

It went 379, which may or may not be better than without the filter cover on.


This is still with that 118 mj. I can try lowering that jet to the 108 or 110 and try again tomorrow to see what it does.

This is driving me crazy though because it doesn't seem like anyone else is having this sort of problem.

Crusinggratiot was nice enough to tell me I could try the extra PG short pipe he has to see what happens.

My plan for tomorrow is :

To drop the main jet some since G9 believes that it is way to large for my setup. I did do some intake window porting, exhaust port porting, and I have those dual stage reeds. Don't know if it is possible that I really am flowing that much air to need a larger jet? I trust his knowledge over mine when it comes to this.

Buy another can of starting fluid to attempt to locate any sort of air leaks. I've checked around the carb, manifold ( all the parts and gaskets in that area), oil pump plug, base of cylinder. I don't know if there is anything else I should be looking for? I don't have any reason to believe the crank seals would be leaking. I didn't seen any sign of it on the left side of the engine while building, but I didn't remove the fly wheel during that process to see the right side. I tried, but didn't have a puller that would work.

Possibly take a trip out to borrow that pipe

Anything else I could be looking for ? Could there be a leak from the head o-ring? Is that a possibility?

One thing about an air leak. I would *think* that if there was an air leak, it would effect idle? For instance, when pull of the vacuum cap on the port on top of the carb, the idle shoots up from the vacuum leak. Wouldn't I see the same issue if something else was leaking?

Just wish my stuff would simply work for once lol

Nothing will work right of the bat. But it will be rewarding once it's dailed in sir..... Then it's time to enjoy. I just followed everyone's advices and tips and mines is running good. But not excellent cause tuning is a never ending battle. So once it's running great stop messing and go riding!

I will switch back the yet tomorrow or wed and see what happens.

The nipple has the cap that came with the carb. It is just stuck on there. If I remove it, the idle jumps up high.

The oil pump block off consists of the oil pump plug fromnyou. I used a little bit of rtv around the o-ring, and made a small plate which has a washer in between the plate and plug so that when the plate is bolted down to the stock oil pump bolt location, it has some preload to keep tension against the plug into the block.

hi Johnny. look at my engine, it leaks everywhere.base gasket, carb gasket, intake gasket.
try the jet first like graphite said. I would do a pressure test for leaks. gl.

How did you go about doing that? Did you just block off the exhaust, and clamp in a cap with air fitting into the carb boot? How much pressure are you putting to it?

Hi Johnny. you block off the exhaust with an old tube. you get an air pump with a gauge on it, a valve stem from a tire, a three quarter inch PVC end cap from Home Depot. drill a hole in the center, pull the valve stem through, attach your pump with a gauge. pump up to 6 pounds! if you go over you can blow out your seals.
spray a little dawn soapy water. check for leaks. good luck.

thats what my CT looked like till I honda bonded the * out of it. every single play where it could leak it did. nice work ped.

Use copper spray gasket on all gaskets and you won't have leaks. Honda bond can be put on too thick or thin and also when in excess can drip into your insides. Copper spray by permatex is the way to go on every gasket to ensure no leaks.

I put the 108 back in. Took off the carb adapter, put it back in with a little sealer just in case between the rubber adapter and manifold. Went for a ride. Still getting up to 400┬░ and seems like it is using a lot of fuel. I don't know much fuel this should use for a few mile drive, but it seems like it used a lot. Sprayed down again, not seeing any fluctuation in idle. Don't know what to do.

Have you checked around the head? Exhaust? The 108 is pretty close. Are there any idle issues any bogging?

What spark plug are you using. Br9hs or br8hsa is what I would use. Unfortunately I do not have experience with these polini carbs yet.

I can vouch for the carbs they great quality and sip gas(mostly). If you think it's using to much gas what would you estimate mpg? The 108 isn't so off to have that dramatic drop in mpg. Have you tried a different pipe yet? When I was running my clogged r1 it ran hot and chugged gas. I'd still check for leaks. I'd tear it down and check everything head bolts etc. rule those things out.
