Throttle Problem

Post by skaltpunk »

My throttle is stuck. It seems to be a problem with how the wire goes into the carb. I took the carb apart, and didn't figure out how to get the wire out to look at it, and now my scooter wont start. I have an 86 spree. any advice?

don't try to cut corners with this repair. take the time to remove everything in the way and take note of the order you do it, and torques. then make sure that the cable isn't kinked anywhere. that is what you mean, isn't it, the cable?

be sure your putting the throtle slide in right it should slide all the way in there is a groove on the side closest to the cylinder you should not have to compress the spring when you tighten the top down

so how exactly do i get the cable out of the carb assembly? i took the carb completely apart and couldn't figure out how to get the cable out of it. I untwisted the cap, pulled out the spring and that spring-like thing at the bottom... what am i missing?

you should be able to pull the throttle piston out of the carb. once that is done, you have to push the cable into the piston to onhook it. if you haven't got the throttle piston out of the carb, that's what you need to do. if it's rusted in there, you may have a big problem. sometimes you can stick a screwdriver in the intake and pry it out. it's always a good idea to let it soak in lube for as long as possible.

great tips, can't wait to try them! how exactly does that mechanism work? (what does the throttle do when pulled?) i think the piston you are talking about is stuck up in the shaft... but i put everything back together and tried to start the scooter, and it wouldn't start. did i screw something else up?
