Up-size tire from 2.75 x10 to 3.00 x 10

Post by spark_ee »

Hi All

Got a 85 Aero 50 here and I seem to remember reading some time back that one can put a 3.00 x 10 tire on the rear to replace the standard 2.75 x 10 and use the stock rim and clearance would not be a problem. Did I imagine this or is this correct? I also seem to remember this will give you a touch more speed. It should increase the load capacity also. If anyone has done this would like to here from ya.

Thanks much.

Yes, you can put a 3.00 x 10 on an '85 Aero 50 without concern.
I've done it without issue..as pictured below.
Rides/brakes a lot better... :thumbwink:

Thanks Moto!! That's what we'll do. Mine is shown wear and it's a good time to try it out.

  Greetings:

I had a 90/90 x 10 on my Aero. First on a stock 1.85" rim with a tube, and later on a 2.15 Met rim tubeless. Both fit just fine and without issues. The 90 on the front rim will just noisily kiss the fender however, but without damage. The Met rim's width matches the 90/90 better. On the stock Aero rim it ends up looking a bit like a light bulb.

Update:

Just got the new up-size tire installed on the Aero. Tire was a Kenda 413 3.00x10.0 and installed on the rear with stock rim. Pictures shows before and after and side view. Big tire looks great. Everything cleared fine except the valve stem. The tube came with a 90 degree stem and just touched the muffler. Added a couple washers under the mufflers two main bolts and clears fine.

The ride is much better. I am better then 200 LBs and the stock tire would flatten a bit with me ridding. The bigger tire holds the weight much better.

I thought the larger diameter would give a little more speed but no so in my case. Maybe 1/2 mph but not enough to notice.

Thanks again to wheelman and motormike for the info.

Great looking scoot there... :surprise:
That tread design and size rides so much better than the vintage tire.
Happy trails... :urban:
