Bought my scooter with a lawnmower ignition switch wired it, the seat lock removed so you just pulled on the cable to pop the seat, and the glovebox was locked with no key. The ignition switch worked but only two wires were hooked up so it would disable the electric starter when turned off, enable it when turned on, and also control the tail light, turn signals, etc but the scooter would still actually run even when the switch was off (had to kill it with the red "kill" switch on the right handlebar). I didn't like the idea that my scooter could be kick-started anytime. I shopped around for a used set of locks/switch and struck out. New sets from Honda were like $80, more than I wanted to spend on a $300 machine.
So most of the $10 kit I bought (came with 2 keys, ignition switch, glovebox lock, and seat lock) on ebay fit perfectly inspite of being designated as fitting a Dio. The glovebox swapped right in, the seat lock was an exact match.
BUT the ignition switch has 5 wires, whereas my harness takes only 4. The difference is an additional green wire. I removed the wires on the new switch from the 5-hole plastic connector block and inserted them individually into the 4-hole connector on my scooter (left out one of the greens) and everything worked as it should but I bumped a couple wires together and blew the fuse. Bought 2 new fuses, and used them both up trying to get things sorted. Really felt like a butterfingers at this point. Bought two more today and finally figured out that I wasn't clumsy, just dim.
The two green wires coming off the new switch look identical (same gauge, no tracers, etc) but I think they must function slightly differently. One of them (according to the electrical schematic for a Dio) is used to ground the CDI when the key is turned off (so the scooter dies, won't start, etc) and the other goes to the oil level sending unit. I think (there's that word again) that I just got lucky the first time I hooked things up and picked the correct green wire. On my final attempt I used both green wires and I think one of them is grounded when the key is "on" (oil sender) and that the other is grounded when "off" (ignition kill) cuz I popped another fuse and the tail light, blinkers, starter, etc were all dead in every switch position. Anybody tried this before? I had to quit tinkering and come to work so it'll be a day or so before I get back to playing in the garage but when I do I'll ohm out the switch and figure out if the two green wires are paired or maybe opposed, as I suspect.
Anybody tried a Dio switch in an Elite SR before?

Re: Replacement ignition switch (ebay)
I have not tried to make other switches work but I know there are some out there for less than Honda. The older Dio's do not have a kill switch so maybe that's why there is an extra ground wire......That's funny about the glove box as they did not have a glove box???
There are also new elites and new dio's (110cc 4-strokes)

Here's what I bought: http://www.ebay.com/itm/291302553619?_t ... EBIDX%3AIT
Re: Replacement ignition switch (ebay)
That's very similar to the one I bought except I paid 14...
anyways you can take either one of the green cables and use a small screw driver and push the tab that's holding them in and the wire will come out the back of the ignition and move it over to the middle slot on the holder.
Then plug the 4 wires you need still in the holder into the bike and you should be good to go!
I just did it yesterday...works awesome!
