Stock bore stock spring?

Stock bore stock spring?

Hey guys I've been reading around a ton and finding out as much as possible...anyways I recently replaced the clutch bell and clutch and I also decided to change the stock rear center spring to a white one sold by SSS. I have been talking to some other people and they said that if I don't have a BBK then I should run the stock spring so that I don't lose "first gear" anyone have any opinion on this! Thanks in advance I am running a koso vari with 6 gram weights. Not sure if I have to go higher on the weights also.

The stiffer spring keeps it in the lower gear ranges longer. If the spring is too soft you will have the trans shifting up too early and if it's too stiff it can keep you away from top gear. I'd keep the white spring and run it to see how it goes.

Whoever told you you'd lose 1st gear got the issue exactly backwards. As PTSG said, a stiffer Contra spring delays shifting to higher RPM. So does a lighter roller load. In fact, the stock bore may not produce as much power up there. This can hurt not only top speed if it's extreme, but over-rev can impair acceleration too. So maybe if you hear screaming without thrust you can go from 36 to closer to the stock roller load of 54 grams if you keep the white spring.

Unless you do a basic derestriction don't even change the center spring.
