Hello! Nice to see a new member here!
Re: New old guy
Wow, that's twice I lost the story, guess it wasn't ment to be !
Short version
Bought in 1990 brand new off the floor (it sat 2 yrs b4 I grabbed it) paid 800 out the door
Been on the board as a lurker on and off for yrs but decided its time to get it up and going this yr.
Has some rough miles, jumped, crashed, naked rides through town w a bart simpson mask on, burnouts and other dumb stuff.
Picked up a factory service manual for 28 bux so that will help a bunch. Also grabbed 2 new factory air filters to replace the one that got partially sucked in to the motor and a new factory pipe on it a long time ago as well.
Has 5,000 plus miles and hasn't run since it died a block away from home 3-4 yrs ago.
Still not 100% sure what motor this has or if its worth doing a big bore kit/carb/pipe ? I kinda like the idea of the disc front to if its possible. Would like to see 50mph or so, possible with this one??
My 1st steps will be to check the current brakes (sounds like metal on metal), maybe a new rim to replace the bent rear one and get it running again.
If you had it to do all over again, would you? Stock? power? Looks? What works well on this scooter and what's a waste of time?
Cheers and beers

Re: New old guy
The engine is the reliable AF05E.
I will let the "tuners" help you with the de-restrictions that are possible.
Your goal of 50mph may not be very easily attainable without some extensive work.
Glad you took the plunge and posted...

Thanks!
Yeah, 50mph may be optimistic but I'm a, the more power, the better! If not possible for reasonable cost then I'll keep it stock and enjoy it.

Re: New old guy
Greetings:
The 1988 SB Elite "E" had an unrestricted Sport model, the ES. I guess this is your scooter? This model is easily confused with the 1987 SE50P Elite and SE50 Elite S. Unfortunately the SB50 engine architecture was shared with its Spree ancestor. However uncorked it may be, 35 MPH is about all the non-variated NQ 49cc block can deliver. That's very respectable for a Spree, but there's really nowhere to go from there with current aftermarket parts. An engine swap to a variated 05 or 16 block is the only way to see 50 MPH. I hope you prove me wrong. The Spree-type undamped telescopic fork is another liability for fitting disc front brake, but a swap to another fork may be possible. The petite SB frame may need bracing to support higher speed and braking loads.

Most of my money is spent on scooterparts. The rest is just wasted.
