Quick question about se50

Post by 808se50 »

Ok so i got a 87 elite some upgrades done accept the bore I rehoned it to a sa50 piston and rings which has (10mm wrist pin) im just wondering if its possible to bore the top part of the connecting rod to a 12mm wrist pin to where I could have a wide range of selections on bore kits or am I just having big dream.

Greetings:

It may be possible to bore the little end of the rod, but altering the design by removing material will slmost certainly weaken it. The boring process must be Perfect for a snug fit, accurate in 2 planes.

Greetings:

A good machinist would need to find a way to hold the rod, removed from the crank, solidly. Examine the end for what would remain after 1mm material removed all around the hole. Then there is the issue of re-pressing the crank together in true. This is never easy. Might work. Why bother?

why bother indeed. why not just go w/ malossi 65cc bore kit, or find an af16 to swap in? then you have the upgrade potential without the mixmatch and weakened material..

Not sure what other bore options it'll open up. I have a 93' elite that i tried a 00' sa50 bore on it. The problem is the ports are so much bigger they start overlapping the reed cage intake area. Burnt_toast is right, just get the malossi kit. I sooped my 93' up with parts from graphite9. I did the malossi kit, naruku black intake with his adapter plate, and a polini 21cp. The bike ripped all the way to 35, then had a second life and pulled all the way to 50! However i did have to port the bottom intakes and boost port on the bore to match the block. After that it pulled evem harder. This is all with stock pipe btw...

The great minds have spoken...and I agree with the logic of starting with a better platform rather than pioneering a better mouse-trap.

65cc bore, black intake, polini 21mm, tuned pipe, and a little bit of porting should be night and day. Unless you wanna have more speed then about 50 an af16 swap can get priced high fast. One thing no one seems to say is how expensive these motors can get.

Greetings:

Both Flashes 2 and 3 topped 55 with Polini and Malossi 47mm bores - 65cc. That was with a Leo Vince exhaust for SE05, which isn't a particularly spectacular hi-po pipe, a regular CT adapted, and various carbs from 17.5 to 24mm, variator and 7.83:1 Malossi gears. Flash 3 probably exceeded 60 a few times, but I had no GPS along for those rides to prove it. That plus was not a very good tuner at the time. Graphie's "smoothie" pipe if you can get one could likely let the revs go a bit higher and speeds faster. You don't need an SA16 to go pretty fast.
