ok, put ohm meter on it, set the meter to 200 ohm scale(smallest) and I get 1.0 for both white and yellow wire, then I go and test my donor spree and yellow wire says 22 and the white says 30. am I reading it correctly scale wise? do the readings show my donor is good?

If kennedy is right try to use the stator off your parts bike and see if that works. You will need a mag puller to get to it off.

The pulse provides spark timing for the bike.

I know you prob wanna fix this right but if you just need a front light fast or power back into the front of the harness you can jump from the rear tail light.

The rotor has magnets and rotate past the stator coils, The stator has three sections or coils, they produce voltage. I can assume that you dont have the wire diagram to look at, so here is a link. http://www.motorscooterguide.net/Manual ... Manual.pdf
The ignition pulser coil obviously is functioning, it is the white wire coil and yellow wire coil that are suspect.
While I am not accustomed to your ohmmeter, I am guessing your " 1" reading is over limit or open circut.
I am guessing that the donor spree ( I hope it's a 1985 also) may be reading closer to what you want.
Please dont hammer on the rotor to remove it, use a threaded puller, they are inexpensive and most every motorcycle shop has them for sale.

thanks for all your help, got the stator off my donor, have a gear puller, so no problem with fly wheel, going to install it tomorrow, big rain storm coming in. I find these scooters a joy to work on, real easy.

This is actually a very good post. I use to see Honda scooters loose power in the headlight all the time. It is nice to find the actual problem. I would have never thought it would have been the stator. Cant wait to hear the results of the stator swap. Never to old to learn :)

installed the donor stator and no lights, looks like it has a dead short, hooked volt meter between the yellow wire coming off stator and bat positive and have 12 volts, so its grounded, same with white and blk/red wire, so back to the drawing board. got my replacement rectifier in the mail, going to hook it up and old stator and see what happens

IT WAS THE RECTIFIER, replaced it with one off ebay for $10 that was "tested good", now I have front light and when I put my volt meter on my battery the volts go up as I rev it, so its charging. project now complete. thanks to all for your help. now I want to buy another to restore to working order, they are fun to work on.

I was having the same problem. After reading this post I swapped out the regulator and the headlight came right on. Thanks again guys.
