86 aero 50 died out of nowhere.

Post by jcolella »

I have a 1986 Aero 50 that was running great for the last few months. I was driving over a bridge and just as I got to the top it just died, no warning no sputtering, the headlight went out and she just shut down. I tried to restart with the electric starter and the kick start with no luck. I can hear the electric starter run but definitely no spark. I checked the fuse from the battery but it seems to be in working order. The headlight wont come on but blinkers and tail light do. I know electrical problems can be a pain so I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on where to start.
Thanks in advance.

Rectifier, cdi box, ground- sometimez bridges have slats for heating and cooling and they can toss a vehical around, used to see cars broken down all the time on the Causeway heading into NewOrleans. Check for loose wires, broken wires, and ungroded wires.

Greetings:

Pull plastics and look as Mr. J suggests. I had my spark plug wire fall off the plug. Hope that is all it is. Loose carb mount happened to me once too. The headlight only comes on with engine running.

Going up a hill usually requires alot of throttle, so maybe something got sucked into the carb. Everytime my aero dies it seems the carbs clogged up. Except last time when it sucked a 6mm nut into the case haha.

Greetings:

Flash 3 aspirated a chunk of filter sponge and dead-stalled on the first hard-throttle application, on the way to work. Easiest fix ever: New filter element from Noisy-Guy.

Pretty much anything that swallows a nut gets choked up.

Where talking about spark here too, maybe just put a new plug it, sometimes they just fowl out. Check to see if also it isnt the kill switch. Sometimes they get nasty and wont work right. Old bikes like these are a mess to wire.

I've had the carb come loose as well. I've hit railroad tracks and had the wires that feed the coil pop off. Had to pull the plastics on the side of the road and yank the airbox cover to reattach them.

I have also bumped the famous red kill switch on the handle bar and worked for hours to figure out why I had no spark.
