How to repair seat foam?

Post by veloc1ty »

Fixing an old 86' spree we have and the seat cover is in pretty bad condition so we're going to replace that. I noticed the foam is also in pretty bad condition and missing a chunk on the left side. I found some foam that feels and looks the same density, do i just cut and tape it ( what tape?) or make the foam part from one piece instead of bits and pieces? Thanks

I would advise you to take it to an upholstery shop and have them fix the foam and put the new cover on. They use a heat gun to remove the wrinkles. Should be about $20 and saves a lot of headache.

Yeah, thats what I thinking, it'll save a lot of time and headache.

By the way.. I just got your package. :) Love the packaging, haha. I think we're going to work on the engine tonight so hopefully it'll run :D

You can glue in foam chunks with automotive spray glue (used for carpet), and reshave the shape with a knife.

Unless you like to sew, just take it to an upholstery shop or buy a used one complete.

I'm planning on buying a new seat cover and i know how to put them one with staples ( dirt bike seat covers ), i was mainly talking about just the foam itself. That spray glue and shaping it with a knife is a pretty good idea, espically to smooth it out.
