does anybody know in which direction the rear nut on the wheel is for taking it off to check the brake. to loosen it is it counterclockwise or the other way? rear brake is not doing its job so i have to check it. thanks in advance

counter clockwise. the same as every other nut.

That's not always true, on a bicycle (not sure which side though), the pedals screw on differently depending which side they're on.
I try to fix things with a hammer and wrench!
