Auto bystart?
What is it and what does it do? Can't keep my Spree running. Cleaned carb(twice), took fuel valve off-blew air through it. Drained tank, added new gas. Pulled reed valve, seemed o.k. Starts fairly easy but acts like it's running out of gas in a few seconds. Yes, it was sitting a long time. Guess I' narrowed it down to the fuel valve or 'bystart' thingy. Can't really see where the wires to it terminate to check resistance, or add 12v per the manual. The old battery is dead, used jumper cables off my truck battery.
does it start ok? if so then your bystarter is good, when a bystarter goes bad, th e bike is hard to start but once warm run decent. i personally think it your fuel valve, it wouldn't choke up because of your bystarter, the bystarter is an electric choke, take your gas and vacume lines off the carb and if gas comes out rght then that means you have a blown petcock valve, prolly from blowing into it,if not, ( which it shouldn't ) then suck on the bottom line ( vacume line ) this will open up your fuel valve and gas should come righht out. if it does start flowing try soaking in it in gas for 24 hours, if nothing then, just get a new one.
Fuel valve
O.k., thanks for the advice. When I disconnect fuel and vacuum lines from the carb, no gas comes out. If I suck on the vacuum line, fuel runs out. Starts easily, but, as I mentioned, quits soon after starting. I'm not sure how much vacuum is necessary to keep fuel coming. Maybe I need to pull a vacuum longer to fill up the carb's bowl before I start the engine. I'll pull the valve again and check it some more.
your main jet is ether to small, or it is clogged. thats the problem. on the main jet there will be ether a 68 or a 65 stamped on the side of it. ether one is good. if its any smaller then a 5 then its to small, if its clogged at all with anything you will run like crap, if you want you may send the carb to me for a rebuild. but soak in in gas over night with all the rubber and plastic parts taken off ( gaskets, seals, float valve and float exc ) they will melt and/or stretch. when i rebuild them i replace all these parts with new ones and i do this in a carb dip. then run a fine wire through all the holes, make sure to take out all the jets including the idle jet. hope this helps.
Main jet
Does the correct jet opening size correspond to a particular numbered, or lettered, drill bit size? I pulled the main jet out twice and sort of 'rodded' it out-first time, it had some crud in it which I think I removed. Without knowing the exact size, kind of hard to tell.
