Oil completly flooding the crank case, ideas? Pictures.

Post by islandbayy »

Hello, I was fixing a friends 1994 Elite today, would not crank for the life of me.

Anywho, took off the upper cylender, and low and behold, the crankcase was FULL of oil.

This isnt her normal honda injection oil (she showed me what she uses, and it's the regular honey gold color honda injection oil.

The oil is a greenish color, (looks like marine oil).

She's taken it to 3 different scooter places, and they've royally screwed her over, each time, they say somthing competly different bla bla bla long story etc....

Anywho, I used turkey baster, drained the oil out. Put the lil sucker back together, and what ya know, it started (sorta), starts for a few seconds. That I can handle and fix myself, however, ideas on where the oil comes from?

Could the oiler have gone bad, and be causing oil to drain in to the crank case? Or do you think some moron filled the crank case thinking oil was supposted to be their?

Thanks All, I've attached picture and video. View them at full size at the link below.

If it's full of an oil she doesn't used, probably a moron (or worse.)

They'll do that sometimes if the oiler goes out and they sit a long time. Oil goes straight into the case from the oiler. Very common, it's why most bike smoke and foul a plug after coming out of storage.

She'll need to replace the plug after she runs it a bit, otherwise it should be OK. I'd clean out as much as you can soak up with a rag (or dump out) and leave it at that.

Fyi: green oil is usually pre-mix, while marine is usually blue. Honda injector oil is clear-ish.

Thanks!

She showed me the bottel, as I said, and she's not using pre-mix, she's using the right 2 cycle injector oil from honda, same kind I use, clear, like honey, it's the right stuff. I think one of the mechanics sabotashied it (Sportland 2 comes to mind). When she took it in, she asked for a estimate, they took the bike in the shop to look at it and give estimate, and completly dis-assembled the bike and put it in a dozen egg crates.

They wanted $1,200 to fix it, but being sooooo high of a estimate, they said she'd be better off selling them the bike.

She said no, told em to put it back together and she'd take it elsware, they refused, said since they already took it apart, she had to have them fix it. Of cource, she threttened to call the poliece, so they put it back together (she didnt authorize them to take it apart, just to give general estimate).

I think they purposly sabo (whatever, cant spell it right) the bike. My family has had similiar experiences with them, but their realyl the only power sports place around, err the most decent, but because of them, a new competitor has been born, at half the price (me MUHAHAHAHA, http://www.Scoot.GlobalDC.com) and I'm getting quite popular. have fixed a number of em since summer, allways happy custoemrs :D just on occasion, somthing like this comes up, and just boggles my mind @_@

THANKS FOR THE IDEAS!!!

(p.s. I'm a quick learner. year ago, didnt know basically doodly squat about fixing these things, basically, change the plug, replace battery, keep engine de-carbonized was it :P WEEEEEEeeeeee,,,,,.....)

Man that shop sounds shady! You're probably right that they just did that to get back at her. Especailly since its completely different oil, and it would take a really long time for an oil leak to produce that big of a pool!

The exact same thing happened to my spree while it was sitting for a couple months. I sucked all of the oil out of the case and am just going to run premix now. How long should it take to burn off the rest in the case? I think it is adding quite a bit to my smoke problem.
