jetting specs for my 88 elite es

Post by bflan2001 »

just in case anyone has a similar setup as my own and is having jetting issues....

i have an 88 honda elite es (sb50), stock exhaust, uni foam pod filter, & stock carb. after installing the pod filter, i was bogging out at 10mph. i drilled out the stock main jet with a #67 drill bit (0.032"), and it runs excellent now. it's a little slower off the line than it used to be but not by much, i'm considering drilling out the pilot to help low speed. and the added top end is well worth it. i haven't taken it for a full road test to get top speed yet but i'll post the results as soon as i do.

... drilling out what pilot jet? There's only an idle jet... DON'T DRILL OUT THE IDLE JET.

i'm talking about the fixed jet inside the carb, is that what youre calling the idle jet? is there no low speed jet on these carbs?

ok so i took it out tonight...it will get up to 30mph in a few seconds, and from there if you stay on the throttle for about 1/2 mile it'll get up to 35...i was hoping to hit 40 but i'm already a little too short on low end for my liking, so i'll probably just keep it the way it is now

There is no low-speed jet on these carbs. That is an idle jet. If you punch it out you'll trash the carb.
