Electric Starter

Post by Bravo462 »

Well back in September me and my dad finally got my spree running. After taking it completly apart, putting in a new piston and other new parts. Well my dad was just finishing putting it together one night and i came over the next day and couldnt find the muffler gasket. I had no clue where it was so i ordered a new one. So we put that in and couldnt get it to start still. We kept cranking the electric start and kick start but still wouldnt go so we started to rip it apart again. Well my dad found a spot where the muffler gasket would fit so he put it there thinking thats wehre it went. So we put it all back together and started on the first kick. So i tried the electric start and nothin. Is it possible that i burned out the motor or wat could be the problem here. How hard is it to replace on of these motors to if it is burned out?

SPREE STARTERS

Post by DENMANSHAFFER »

THESE LITTLE STARTERS ARE PRETTY SIMPLE TO REMOVE AND SERVICE. I THINK THERE IS A BEARING IN THE FRONT THAT CAN BE REPLACED AND A FEW DROPS OF OIL IN THE OILITE BEARING AT BACK. MARK THE HOUSING WHEN YOU DISASSEMBLE, IT CAN GO BACK TOGETHER WRONG VERY EASILY AND THE STARTER WILL SPIN THE WRONG DIRECTION. IT TAKES ABOUT THREE HANDS TO GET THE BRUSHES HELD IN PLACE WHILE THE COIL IS PUT BACK IN PLACE.
THERE ARE A NUMBER OF MOTORCYCLE ELECTRIC SHOPS ON THE INTERNET THAT CAN PROBABLY SUPPLY A NEW STARTER IF YOU CANT GET FROM HONDA.
IF ITS WORKING RIGHT, IT WILL SPIN LIKE CRAZY WHEN YOU DISCONNECT IT FROM THE CASE AND HIT THE START BUTTON (WHILE HOLDING IN THE BRAKE).

Ditto; Remember to hold the brake lever on tight or the electric starter will not work. Chuck
