rebuilding a spree that just wont start

Post by islandbayy »

Hello all. I am rebuilding a spree that just for the life of me, will not start.

Electrical appears to be working, however, the headlight doesnt even light up when I kick it.

New piston+rings+new used "good" cylinder.

Couldnt get a spark.

When doing the electric start, it tries, the motor turns and such, but not enough to turn over the engine. When using electric start, also, their is a clicking noise.

I have a short video you can see where I point some things out.
Ignore the battery charger and multimeter. I was de-sulfating a old car battery to use for my Solar Array. http://pictures.sprintpcs.com/share.do? ... =RETRIEVED
Thanks Everyone!!!

Oh yah, everything apears to be connected properly. And yes, i know you can see my phone number, BIG STINKING DEAL :P

i had that proplem b 4, and for me what i found was there was a piece of metal stuck on the magnetic pick up coil. pull off your fan cover on the engine, and take a quick peek.

You've got two seperate problems. Did this scoot work b/f the rebuild?

Your starter isn't turning the engine. The sound you hear is the starter relay, and is normal. You'll have to troubleshoot backwards through the system. I'd start by removing the bendix to see if the motor will turn over, then checking the wiring.

You don't have spark. This is easier to check with a working starter. Here again you'll have to work backwards through the harness (using the service manual) to see what's wrong.

The headlight won't come on until the engine starts running... or do Spree headlights typically come on when kicking them over? Not sure, I've never had one with kick start!

On my Spree, you can start it with the kick start and not hold the brake lever.
To start with the electric starter you must hold the brake lever.
