1987 elite SE50P

Post by roaddog »

I just picked up a 1987 SE50P, but there is no air box and i'm looking to find what i can replace it with.
Does anyone have one that they would sell or does anyone know if the SB50 or SA50 air box will fit?

thank for any help

Greetings:

Congrats on finding this Rare Bird. I think the '87 box was unique to that model. Nearly certain the SB won't fit, but the SA might be adaptable. The other option is a cone filter and appropriate jetting change.

Greetings:

I'd start with a 92. Check temp gauge if you have one or read the spark plug after a few miles.

Maybe buy a small, 5-jet kit to have to tune with. I think the best one to try to find would have like a #85, #88, #90, #92 & a #95 in it, or buy them individually? Try Scooterswapshop.com I think they carry those. Start high (#92) and work down is best so you don't run it lean. Keep in mind that the stock carburetor on your scooter does not have a changable pilot jet so you will want to lower your needle jet clip on the end of the throttle cable to ensure as much fuel supply to the closed throttle after a wide open throttle run. Look thru these pages for more info about it.

Get ahold of this guy. Have him sell you the exhaust and the transmission gears.

Then buy this and youre set. With this variator, the unrestricted exhaust and the 10:1 gears installed you’ll have good acceleration and a top speed around 45.

Need to upjet slightly with that new exhaust. I believe the stock main jet is 78 or 82, cant remember exactly. Bump it up to 88-90 range and she’ll sing.

The unrestricted exhaust and 10:1 gears for the 87’ are unicorns. Jump on those because you might never see them again.
