Manual says its right, why won't the spark plug fit? 1985 Honda Aero

Post by caddyss »

The bike is a 1985 Honda Aero 50. The manual calls for NGK BPR6HS. I got a replacement from Torch (E6RTC), and it threads properly but the other side (terminal) is too big to fit into the plug wire. So I tried again with the actual NGK part, the BPR6HS that the manual calls for, and that also threads correct but the terminal is also too big. The ceramic insulator fits, but the tip of the terminal wont fit in. The manual says to use BPR6HS, or BPR6HSA for colder weather. The plug I'm using is definitely the correct part number, it's printed right on it.

How is this possible? Was there some sort of weird part number change?

Thanks for any help...

Theres a chrome tip on the end of the sparkplug. Unscrew it and throw it away. The ignition wire just pushes onto the bare threads and clicks on.

Thanks!. Is that somehow partial to this particular plug? I've got a garage full of bikes, not to mention all the mowers, small machines, cars, etc., and I don't recall ever having to unscrew a tip.

Its all about what the ignition wire you have requires. I bought an aftermarket replacement coil from Ebay once (ended up being junk) but it needed the tip on…whereas the OEM Honda unit needed no tip. The tips are removable to accommodate both applications.

CADDY SS What's up!! NGK states that the "A" at the end of the number designates that the cap is removed to expose the threads for the style of spark plug cap that Honda uses on these scooters. That's why the BPR6HS didn't work but all you need to do is un-screw the cap like it has been mentioned. Or purchase the BPR6HSA spark plug.
