Hello y'all,
I don't even know if anyone is still on this forum? So I will keep it brief. Bought an 86 Spree. Seems to be pretty unmolestedly, at least I thought. Paul at the Scooterswapshop, told me I have a carb from a CRF 50. After further investigation, I agree. Everything is stock. I'm using the stock air box/filter, NGK BPR6 something or rather, gapped at .025. That is the closest guage I have per the manual. Carb was gone through, and I tried the needle at the third space from the top, was pretty boggy. swapped it back to second from top. New gaskets on exhaust, intake, valve cover. I haven't gotten into the main case, which I need to. I cannot drain the oil! I assumed it was the rear bottom most bolt, but nothing comes out. Plugged? I've topped it off with 10-40 or whatever the manual says.
It runs! I like the manual choke over the bistarter. I've never had one, so... Am I going to be able to get this this tuned perfect-ish with this carb? I'm still learning, but I am having bogging still (Once it gets up to operating temp). At the top end I noticed it felt like I was hitting a very slight rev limiter.
Thanks,
Davin

Yes Mr. TaTaco, this site is populated daily.
What is this "valve cover" you mention ? The only valve would be a "reed" valve.
Why do you "need to" get into the main case ?

^^This link takes you to the Wikispreedia main page and should answer your question about draining the gearbox oil in the service manual.
I don't own Spree and am not familiar with the specifics.
Maybe another member who is familiar will chime in.
As your question, "Am i ever going to be able to get this carb tuned..."you may be the only one who has that carb on a Spree.
Good luck sir and report back any findings.

Thank you for the reply. I should have prefaced with, I don't know much about the 2 stroke world. It's pretty fascinating, actually! I said what I said, because of so many posts that are super dated. Not much recent conversation. I took the scooter out for a 20+ min ride. It would bog at about a 1/4 throttle, but have to roll on the gas, nice and easy. Otherwise the bogging will continue. Maybe go down (towards the tip) one notch on the needle? I'm waiting on a temp guage, but did install a tach. It's reading into the 6500ish RPM area. Does this seem in the ball park? As for getting into the case, I just want to drain the oil. I do have the manual, thanks to Spree Wiki. There is a lot of good information, but there is nothing I see on this topic. But, the bolt that is supposed to drain the main gear doesn't drain. I just need to put fresh oil in it.
Re: 1986 Spree breathing through a CDF50
This talk about drain bolt, adding oil and 10w30, leads me to think youre talking about the gear oil in the rear. If so: there is no “drain” bolt…only a “fill” bolt. To replace the oil you need to remove the cover. This would require having a new gasket on-hand before you do this.
Sure, you could remove the bolt, tip the whole bike on it’s side and get some of the oil to dribble out but you wont get all of it. Its best to remove the cover, spray it out with brake cleaner, put the cover back on with a fresh gasket, then fill with correct amount per the manual.
As far as the carb goes, you might be swimming in uncharted waters with that carb. Maybe its never been tried or if it has, it hasn't been posted on here with results. Some of the bogging symptoms you explained sounds like a jetting issue. Possibly too fat and youre getting too much fuel when you rip the throttle. If easing into the throttle gets you a cleaner rpm gain, thats a good indicator of a fat jet….or on the other hand, not enough air speed through the venturi. Which means an airflow restriction at the air filter or exhaust system.
Theres my 2 cents. Keep the change.

I need to find some new haters...the ones I have are starting to like me.
Re: 1986 Spree breathing through a CRF50
Thank you. In my initial research, I saw a diagram showing that bolt will drain the main gear. I just placed an order from Adept powersports, I could have added it. I was thinking the CRF5o carb may be narrower, by the way it is mounted up. OK, so with that being said, is there a OEM carb that has the manual choke? I haven't seen one. Would going back to a bi-starter something I "should" do? All I'm looking for is, reliability, and good even power. What about the plug gap? I'm at .025, any recommendations?

How's everyone's day going?
I got gaskets and a new reed ordered from NoiseGuy. I also ordered a rear brake cable. Seems pretty OK. connections look good and function well. My only grip would be, the abrasion portions seem less durable. We'll see. I"m working on the seat right now. New foam getting built up and formed, with a new seat cover. Wish me luck!
