Clutch Weights---More speed want heavy or lite weights?
Just double checking, but i'm having a problem seeing the difference. Do I want heavier weights or liter weights to have more speed? dont care about pickup power, just need fastest possiable top speed.
Thanks
Thanks

Please explain your logic. If your variator reaches max expansion at 5K RPM or 8K RPM they will both be at the same drive ratio at 8K RPM and going exactly the same speed. Which one will have better acceleration? Your logic is like starting your car in second gear rather than using first gear to get up to a faster speed first before switching to second.MySpree wrote:NOOOOOOO the heavyer weights you put in the faster it will go, once its tuned right youll know the difference. it will go 45 one min, and 55 another.
The idea is to have your variator reach max expansion at your scoots highest RPM possible.

You have it totally wrong.-aL- wrote:light weights will move out faster, and then stop, leaving you at a mediocre speed quicker, heavier weights take longer and it'd give you a better top speed

Read this article and really think about this. Now as for the different weights for the rollers. It is really rather simple. The heavier the weight, the more force will be applied to the angle plate forcing the rear pulley half forward faster. If the roller weights are too heavy, it will force the gear into too high of a gear too fast.

You are correct about that. You need to find the correct balance between how heavy your roller weights are, your spring tension and the power that your scoot can produce (how many RPMs it can achieve).-aL- wrote:and you have to think about springs and all of that, not just the weights

Just to clarify... are we talking about roller weights (off the crankshaft) or clutch weight (for the clutch pads?)
Only the roller weights might affect top speed... clutch pad weight only changes the clutch engagement RPM.

from experience i know about weights, i had 7s in my elite and it went 43, i put 13 in my elite and it goes 55. it changes it, the variator will not expand all the way if you have to light of weights in. ever drove without a kicker cover? well i have, i have been for months and i have seen what it does.

I totally agree with you here. My point is that if you put too heavy of roller weights in the variator, you will just bog yourself down at slow speeds. I reduced my weights significantly and I maintained the same top speed and gained a ton of acceleration.MySpree wrote:from experience i know about weights, i had 7s in my elite and it went 43, i put 13 in my elite and it goes 55. it changes it, the variator will not expand all the way if you have to light of weights in. ever drove without a kicker cover? well i have, i have been for months and i have seen what it does.
