WTB Honda Helix

Post by motormike »

Hello readers... :hi:
I am appealing to you for help finding a clean, low mile HELIX.
Currently looking on facebook marketplace often, and on assorted facebook pages.
Willing to pay $2500 and travel 200-300 miles for the right bike.
Located in south-central Kentucky.
Have owned several Helix scooters, absolutely love the bikes, and MUST have one last Helix
before age and health place demands that prevent riding.
Respond here as I check forum daily...thank you for any lead you share...motor... :urban:

Thank you for diligence noiseguy getting page back up.
Since this post, I have bought 2 Helix scooters. Both 2001, one in RED and the BLACK.
Red bike is 7k mile bike, but PO opted to put a Chinese carburetor on it instead of trying to clean the OEM.
I think the carb is under sized, possibly meant for a 125cc or so. Never-the-less, it does run, but clearly under powered.
Shortly after buying the Red, the Black came up. Considerably more miles, but very clean and updated with all kinds of wear related parts and with an OEM carb. Includes both tires, new, and Heidenau brand. WIN ! One drawback is a bad exhaust leak. The good things is, Black bike came with a basket full of NOS Honda parts totalling at least $200 and including that pesky exhaust gasket. Now that I have satisfied my quest for another Helix, I'll hang onto it for eternity. Total of 6 owned since the start. Keeping the Gyros too, but all the rest I've started selling, cutting down from 8 to 3. It's been a swell run with all of you here on hondaspree, and I'm here until the end. Happy trails, Live large, ride small. motor.

Is the exhaust gasket on the Helix a hard part to find? Haven't heard that one before.

No, the gasket is still available from dealer, however it is double the price of aftermarket gasket. Trouble is, the aftermarket gasket is slightly too long for proper fitment, and gives big trouble when trying to reinstall muffler. Upon further examination, I find that the PO used an aftermarket gasket on this helix, failed to get it to align, and left 3 mounting bolts out of muffler. this has led to a complete failure of the gasket connection, and rendered the muffler junk when 2 of the 4 tabs that "pinch" the connection have broken off. I have a custom exhaust ordered. Update to follow.

Installation of custom pipe complete.
Good throaty sound, easy fitment.
Turned out very good. I'm happy to be back on the road.

No audio, but here's a pic of the Bonanza pipe.
It's straight through, so pretty throaty.
