new spindle and return spring

ordered a new spindle and return spring from hondaparts-direct for kick start assembly, put on the cover, but then noticed once i put the washer back on there was not clearance for the snap ring, the second set of cogs on the spindle is deeper than the older one, can i just put the snap ring on without the washer on th spindle?

no, if you dont have the washer it will tear up the gears.
