Easy motor swaps for the spree

Problem is that i need to get a new motor for my spree, But if i can get an areo motor for almost the same price, that seems better to me since the aero has a variator. What other motor swaps would be easy?

I realize mounts would be different, but thats nothing hard. I'm more concerned with not having to change the wiring harness or the handlebar controls. Would i still be able to use my spree carb on these motors? I read that an areo 50 will fit. What about an elite50? What about areo and elite 80's? Whats the deal with this dio motor i keep hearing about?

Either a '94+ Elite 50cc (Dio) or earlier Elite/Aero would work. Never done one personally, but the wiring doesn't seem to be a big issue... controls are mostly interchangeable (I think many wire open the oiler, for example, for a single cable throttle.)

oh, and will my carb work on an aero. I know it will mount up, but if i rejet it will it work fine?

You can put in anything you can weld/wedge in, but the 50cc 2-strokes are more likely to fit without major sidepanel mods, and work with the stock harness.

if you buy your motor complete why would you wanna use a spree carb? if you buy a dio motor then there is a whole nother spectrum of aftermarket parts to choose from... as far as carbs gears cylinders belts pulleys clutches pipes cranks... ect, why would you want a spree carb, as far as the harness, every thing is splice and color code, you will also need to modify a new shock mount as dios mount further back...

i have a 87 elite se50 engine on my spree. all wiring is the same. take the stock spree engine mount, and turn it around 180, then remove the kick stand and bolt it in place. re-locate the shock mount.

because cost is the whole issue im dealing with. If i can buy a spree motor for the same price as an elite, why not buy the elite... but then if i have to buy a carb theres another 60 bucks or whatever. I think im just gonna rebuild the spree motor though, i got a parts list from honda and it would only be like 75 bucks to rebuild the top and bottom end minus piston and crank. I thought it would be close to double that

Is that really all that's involved for the physical mounting? I thought you needed to reweld a custom mount for the transplant...

yep. thats all i did. i took the stock spree mount flipped it 180, bolted it to the engine, then bolt the engine to where the kick stand is suppose to go. i put in an extra spree mount, and left that one in the stock location of the spree frame for more strength. for the shock mount, i took a piece of 3" C-channel, cut it 3" long, drilled 4 holes in it and bolted it directly under the battery box. on that piece of C-channel, i welded a 3"x 1/2" thick piece of steel to that giving me a nice 3" lift. to finish it off, i welded a bolt to the C-channel to give me a place to mount the shock. thats it. it looks like a factory fit. i will post a pic of it soon.
