Water and engine dont mix!
well, i took my 84 spree out in the rain. it has a 87 elite sa50 engine on it. i was hittin some flood waters on the street goin to work. the engine was like shuttin off and dying for some reason?
not to mention i totally bit the big one after i wiped out. it seems like when im going a nice steady speed, the engine cuts off like your turning the engine off. it only did it when id hit some small puddles. im asumming its electrical somewhere. i did notice today when i was lookin it over, the pick up coil wire was bare in one little spot. i put some silicone all over the bare wire to try and seal it. ill take it out tomorrow and see if that was the problem. anyone else run into these problems? any other suggestions would help. thanks.
That hole was your problem. Pretty typical on older bikes.

i notice that when i hit a bump in a road, if i'm at a low enough engine speed, i.e. just creeping forward, the engine cuts out completely, as if a wire is loose some place...if i'm going way faster, the engine cuts out, and then fires back up again...(forward motion, probably keeps the engine going, so when the circuit closes again, it fires back up automatically)...
i assume this is the same problem? what coil are you talking about? where on my spree should i be checking for electrical issues related to this?

that forward motion sounds like you just need to tune your idle screw strrt from 1 1/2 turn outs... n work from their... but yah i think you should open up your cylinder and drain some of the water that may have got sucked in by your carb then bogged out? are you running an air filter going through the rain?
catch me if you can (",)
