couple questions on oil

Post by oncewaslost1982 »

Hi, what oil should I run in my spree? What options other than honda injection oil? what can I get from autozone that will do? also how do I add gear oil? how often does that need to be checked? thanks so much.

No good choices at autozone. Go to a Honda or Yamaha dealer if you can't find good motorcycle premix lubes.

You don't use more that the tankful of oil every 4-5 gas changes eg 500 miles. My Aero will go 600 miles before I light the light .

Always check visually when you refuel.

As you probably will only use a qt a season and better oil saves a lot of carbon maintenance - I don't try and save here. Worst choices
qt of castrol and valvoline all purpose 2 stroke oil. next valvoline semi syn in 1/2 gt is comparable to Honda and Yamaha premix and can be found in auto stores - not autozone though.

You can get oil on the internet. I like Motul premix, castrols evo premix
and Mobil 1 2 stroke syn - all syn- all in the $7-10 range per gt.

don't go to autozone period. Try Honda or Yamaha dealers for their premix. You get about 600 miles on a oil tankful. Try checking when you refuel.

Get a syn even if on the internet as it saves on carbon related maintenance and you use a qt in a season. Don'tr skimp on oil.

allright. There is no bike dealership anywhere around me other than a harley dealership. I am not looking for just standard 2 stroke oil right? I did get some stuff thats made for 2 stroke engines aw-3 or somethinglike that. What local places sell any of the reccomended brands? I am sorry to be a pain in the *.

I'd still use the internet and get Motul710 or any of 4-5 injector syns and semi syn-

But if I'm limited to auto stores- no internet, no Moto shops I'd use the semi syn valvoline 2 stroke in the pint bottle. You might see Mobil One
2t syn which is labled a premix in pints. It's thin enough to use in your injector even if labled a premix.

Injector oil is just thinner 2 stroke than most premix. Don't even drive a tankful on 4 stroke as the add packs leave tons of carbon and any other than 5-20 won't work well in your injector pump.

Also dump what oil you have its been in there a couple of years before adding new or firing up.

Second thoughts on auto store 2 stroke. I looked at the Valvoline site
The 2 stroke motorcycle in black bottles for motorcycles is for premix - 20-50w and way to thick for an injector. The only valvolines 2 stroke are - the outboard motor that is for injection , some oil in a whilte bottle says injector oil and most snow mobile oils are thin enough to work in an injector .

woa there... injector oil is most definately NOT thinner than premix, it can't be. For one thing, premix has to mix with gas, so it has to be thinner than regular oils.

And on the question of gear oil, (for the final reduction) you unscrew the big bolt on the left side (looking from back), it sticks out, and is also in manual. Fill it until oil comes out with the scooter on level surface. To empty it, take the battery out and tip the scooter on its side.

i prefer gear oil but change to something under 50wt cold in the winter or the bike wont move
I am not a mechanic, nor do I play one on TV. Actually my advice is probably worth slightly less than what you pay to view it.

Uhhh... for one thing, if you read the manual it says to use regular motor oil. And if you use heavy weight gear oil (80-90W) it will make the scoot sluggish.
I've alredy tried gear oil on mine and it doesn't work too great.

Gear oil should be used in the gear box.

Recommended factory specs are 80W-95

For heavy working engines (moded and high heat engines), I recommend 80W-140
