Was going 29-30mph and now it donest start

Post by ahrenv »

My moped was running great. I was driveing in town, was coming down a small hill and it killed... almost as if i hit the kill switch. Now nothing.

Cleaned the carb.
new plug.
seems to have nice blue spark.
also seems to have good compression.

- the only weird thing thats going on now is that there is a lot of gas and oil coming out the exhaust. and now it doesnt want to do anything. I get a little white smoke out of the exhaust port. But nothing.

could it be a faulty wire?
or a bad float in the carb,
is the spark plug not firing at the right time. i don't know what to do.

the moped is a 1986 nq50 spree.
any advise on what to do next

thanks -ahrenv

it think the float went bad and it flooded
I am not a mechanic, nor do I play one on TV. Actually my advice is probably worth slightly less than what you pay to view it.

Mine did the same thing. The fuel petcock went bad and now you├óÔé¼Ôäóre sucking fuel through the vacuum hose. It├óÔé¼Ôäós filling up the case and blowing it out the exhaust. Fix it ASAP or you will blow a case seal or hydro the piston.
My petcock seemed to work fine, without vac. the fuel shut off but when you applied vac. it would pull fuel through the vac line and let fuel flow through the supply line. Unless you├óÔé¼Ôäóre running Holly 750 double pumper on your scoot, that├óÔé¼Ôäós way to much fuel!! :D

ok so i took off the tank and the carb. I re cleaned the carb... the float seems to be working in a floating matter???

now i am confused about the petcock. I took it off the tanks. When the vacume line is on from the carb to the petcock there isnt any fuel in it... it sucks and a bit of gas comes from the other line...

so again. how do i check to see if this is the petcock, or check to see if its the float in the carb. it seems like it wants to start. well it just turns over, i give it gas and it sound "hollow"???, as if gas is going to it... also i took off the air filter hose deal, and gas just shoots out of that.

what am is missing.? thanks -ahrenv

The vacuum line is connected to the intake manifold. The fule line is connected to the carb. The small line is the vacuum the big line is the fuel. Check it again.

Your buddy switched the fuel / vacuum line hookups on your scoot at the carb/manifold.

Thanks a lot for the replies..

This is how I have it running from the petcock to the carb, and intake....

PETCOCK.
TOP LINE ---->carb, the Larger lines of the two

BOTTOM LINE----> the INTAKE, ALSO WHERE THE OIL LINE COME INTO>>
The smaller of the two lines.

DO I HAVE THIS CORRECT. ???

Could it be compression. or is this more of a line/carb/gas issue?
Thanks -Ahrenv

That's right. Bottom vacuum line goes to the manifold near oil line. Make sure gas isn't coming out vacuum line (doesn't sound like it is.)

yeah your right... there isnt any gas going through the bottom/vaccume line. the petcock seemes to be doing its job. and the carb is cleaned... but it still just turns. will not fire.

can any one give me a ruff idea how much finger pressure i would be getting for compression, if i check back of the carb on the intake it seems ok, the spark pulg hole seems ok, and the exhast also seems ok, if any thing, they might be a little weak.

but anyone have good ruff idea. i will get a compression tester later in the week, but i jsut want a ball park.

any info would be great. other wise what elese could be the problem. Would i need to take the head off and check the rings. sould i just replace the rings??? should i just get rid of this little hog. thanks -ahrenv

also how much gas should be comming out of the fuel like when the vaccume is sucking properly, could it be that flote is it sucking to much? or that the petcock is letting to much through... i am at a loss
