Carb Leaking Gas

Post by zero »

Hello,

Cleaned the Carb on the 86 with 7 miles on it. It started and idled well until I noticed gas coming from the carb. I checked the drain screw and the o ring was torn so I put on a new oring and tried again and still leaking. It is leaking not from the drain coming from the bottom of the carb but from a small metal 3/4 inch "down spout" on the back of the it. Also the seal between the bottom of the carb and the top part is good and not leaking there.

The only time it leaks is when I am trying to start it or get it running. If I unscrew the drain screw a bunch of gas comes from out of the little drain tube so the carb is holding its gas when I'm not trying to start it. What did I do wrong?

Thanks

You're right, when I cleaned the carb I blew the float pin somewhere and had reassembled it without it. Bought one today at a local shop and not leaking anymore. Now just won't start. It high reved and then died. Now I'm getting nothing. I have good compression, good spark, clean carb.

No Idea what to do next.

it went WOT and then died? are you sure the slide is in the carb correctly it will go in many different ways but it only works one way
I am not a mechanic, nor do I play one on TV. Actually my advice is probably worth slightly less than what you pay to view it.

What do you mean by slide?

I just took the carb apart again, and put it back together per carb cleaning instructions. The carb is like new as only 7 miles on it. It will start for 1-2 seconds and then dies. If I cover the air intake I can keep it running for a lot longer but it does not stay running. Everytime I give it a little gas it kills.

Thank you in advance for any help.

these two stroke engines are really really touchy about the fuel/air mixture if your air cleaner is off you will have tons of problems getting it to stay running. get a new sponge for the air cleaner and hook it all back up and i bet it will act like a different scoot.
