Here I go again, oil pump and starting help

Post by my4sons »

Starting a new thread this time. I have a 1989 sb50p, thought I needed new bearings on the crank because of a funny noise in there, tore it apart and found out it was actually the gear in the oil pump making the noise. But since I had it apart and an extra pump, changed that out along with new bearings.

Got it all back together (ran before I did this) and now I can't seem to get it to start and worst part of the entire process, I can hear that oil pump gear making the same noise.

I have good compression and spark, had the carb cleaned before I started this process, drained all the wrong oil and put in the Honda stuff.

Any help, suggestions would be much appreciated.

Nothings rubbing, the noise comes when I wiggle the flywheel back and forth, but the pumps working, I pulled the tube off the carb and turned the flywheel and oil was coming out the tube. But the not starting has me baffled. I took off the head gasket, cylinder/piston, no oil down in the crank case, everything looked good there. The magnet on the CDI was a little rusty, so I lightly cleaned it with sand paper, definitely improved the magnetic ability, quickly stuck to the flywheel.

Could use any suggestions you guys can come up with.

Thanks!

I just had a problem with my ped not starting and I took it to a mechanic and he said that my crank shaft was shot. I owner before me ran it so long with a loose belt that the crank shaft teeth got stripped down causing the cluth to spin but not the shaft. I don't know if that will help but thats all I got.

That stinks, fortunately I don't have that, crank is turning fine, piston going up and down, had a little trouble putting the belt side back together, took awhile to figure out since the back end had stayed in place when I took the crankshaft out but got it and it spins just fine. I fouled out my ngk plug, the local shop only had Autolight plugs, only getting a white spark going to call and have them order the ngk plugs. Is there any way to test a CDI? I had cleaned the air filter, pretty dry, think I'll add a little more oil to it might be getting too much air.

Thanks
