hello all, this is my first time posting so i'd like to thank everyone for taking the time to read this.
I recently bought a 1986 spree with now almost exactly 2000 miles. The night I got the spree I road it around and bunch of times, turning it on and off with no problems. Right before I was about to park it for the night it shut off and when I would turn it back on if I gave it any gas it would just shut off, so i narrowed it down to a clogged carb which the next day I opened up and cleaned. I got it running and everything seemed fine for the day. That night I road it around again and after riding it for a little while I turned it off and tried to turn it on again...it wouldn't start. My friends and I put our heads together and decided that the engine was being flooded it had to do with the fuel mixture (the spree had been sitting for about a year and we didn't really know the condition). After adjusting the fuel mixture everything seemed to be perfectly fine. Everything was working great, turned off and one and ran perfectly until today when I road it for litteraly 3 minutes, let it sit for about 10 and when I went to go turn it back on it wouldn't start. Is there anything that anyone can recommend I do or check? If it is the engine getting flooded, what could be the cause of that?
I am sorry if this is a noob question but any help would be awesome.
If there any questions I can answer that may make the diognosis a little easier please ask, I bought this thing as a commuter to work and school (each are about a mile away from where I live) and I would love to gett this thing tip top shape before school starts.

well the first few things to do after getting a moped that sat for a period of time is to clean the carb(sometimes multiple times are required), new gas, new spark plug, emply the oil and and fresh 2 stroke injector(you don't have to but it doesn't hurt either
),
so how does the plug look anyway..you want a light chocolate brown color..white is lean, black is rich, as is a wet plug. Hows compression? When you get it running again take a mile or so ride at wot(wide open throttle) and kill the engine with either the key or kill switch. slow to a stop and check the plug. by letting the engine idle it'll change the plug color and we don't want that. However, you can let the engine cool before checking the plug, this will not change the plug color. This is called doing a plug chop and works best with a newer spark plug.

welcome to the site, when it comes to getting a spree running you came to the right place.
i almost got a spree for my first moped but the guy wouldn't give in and sell it. instead i got a yamaha jog, faster yes but unreliable and all around junk. spree are funner, not sure why... they just are

ok well...I took off the gas tank, cleaned it and put new gas in it. I took off the oil reserve, cleaned it and put new oil in it (the old oil was really gross). I took off the carb and did a full cleaning. I took all the hoses and cleaned them. lastly I took out and replaced the spark plug which didn't look at all in bad condition. turned the key and it started right up with no problems and runs much better and much faster. Thank you all for the help it obviously worked...for now (knock on wood). If the problems continues I am going to have to agree with the above comment and blame it on the bystarter.
