Gas Gauge - How does it work?
how does the gas guage work on the NQ50?
Well I know there is a fuel sensor inside the tank. You should see some wires by the gas cap. Disconnecting those wires will allow you to remove the sensor from the tank. I would imagine the wires which hook up to fuel sensor lead back to the speedometer and gas gauge. From there I am not sure. It must be some type of electric signal which is sent back to the gauge to move it up or down depending on how much fuel is detected by the sensor.

The float in the tank is a variable resistor. When the float is all the way down (empty) the resistance is 0 ohms. When the float goes up (filling the tank) the resistance will go up slowly until full. I think its 30 or so ohms.
It could be backwards 30 ohms empty and 0 ohms full, I would have to put a meter on it to check.
