Reed valve

I've got carb off. If I want to check reeds what kind of wear am I looking for? If I take intake off, do I have to replace gasket? Looks plastic to me.

Thanks

I made new gaskets for mine when I pulled the reeds off out of gasket material. The reed block itself is plastic but there should be a paper type gasket on the top and bottom of it. You don't want them to have any open gaps around the sealing edge. Mine had a few small ones, so I flipped them over and that sealed them. If they are too out of shape you may need new ones.

I just got some at the auto parts store. I got fuel proof because I use it for other stuff, but I bet you can get away with the thinner stuff for this area. Anyways a place like Napa or any older parts store. Not sure if places like Checkers etc... will have. Just give them a ring.

Well, I decided to look at the cylinder head instead- took off shroud/fan cover. How gross! Grease, dirt and grime!
Brake cleaning fluid seems to be my main tool these days.
