Won't keep running

Post by pondo »

I have a problem similar to what others have been inquiring.

After buttoning up the Elite SB post cylinder work the thing will not keep running. I reviewed as much online info I could and finally tried a "test" which was suggested. I removed the auto bypass screws and started it while holding the bypass a little out from where it seats. I could actually keep the motor running while playing with the manual position of the bypass.

So...does this mean that the auto bypass is bad? Something else? Can you convert to a manual choke? What is price/availability of auto bypass? Thanks!

I would check the connections on the bystarter first. Make sure there is a good solid connection and no broken or frayed wires. If that all checks out then I would say yes get a new bystarter. You may be able to get one at a honda dealer or you can always try E-bay.

Okay guys...

I have ensured that the vacuum petcock is operating correctly.
I have cleaned out the bystarter and the needle moves w/ charge.
I have cleaned the connections of the bystarter.
I have torn the carb down again and cleaned well and blew it out.

I can get it to fire up for a second or two if lucky.

Question: How critical is the battery? It will turnover and operate to some extent w/ out...but is that my missing link?
