My Newest Scooter.

Post by Dac »

i would like to start this tread by saying i love stupid people. WhatsYourName (the guy i got my newest scooter from), This means you.
well i found a 1996 SA50P honda elite S for.... 100$
this thing is non-running at the time. the person i got it from said it will start but not stay running.( a simple carb. problem.) and that it needs a battery. He knew nothing about it. or what a dio motor was. Heres some pics of it. (note i just got it home. i haven't had time yet to take the purple stickers off or anything)
here it is...

You lucky lucky......
I am not a mechanic, nor do I play one on TV. Actually my advice is probably worth slightly less than what you pay to view it.

That is even better, definitely got lucky on this one. I think I did pretty good too, believe mine is 2nd owner and he had it garage kept since he got it. Plus I can't complain since the only elites here are pitbikes at the local track.. Making our dio finds that much sweeter.

its funny. ever since i hinted about getting a new one, EVERYONE has been asking how much i want for my old one. sorry but i want to keep it for now.i might end up taking some of my performance parts off my old elite and putting then on my dio.
i payed 300$ for my black elite and have about 300$ into it. i know theres no way in * i would ever get 600$ or let alone 500$ for it. so i think im just going to keep it.

just started working on it. took the gas tank off because it looks like old gas. so im going to clean the tank well im at it. im draining the oil also. no telling what they had it in. when i bought it i thought the guy meant the battery wouldn't hold a charge. no, he meant no battery at all.

I did check for spark and it has a nice blue/white spark. It might need a set of rings. the compression feels like it could be a hair better. i have yet to take apart the carb. or check the reeds.

This thing has got me so amped, i wish i didn't have to go to work today.

ok so i took the carb. off, havnt cleaned it yet but i got a chance to look at the reeds. its got sweet reed valves. there a clear color, not the stock metal ones but some type of clear stuff. there flat as flat could be.

also, will the rims off a 92 SA50 fit on a 96 SA50P ???
i think if i take the purple stickers off my yellow moped, put the blue rims on it. and put a few blue stickers it would be bad looking. will they fit?

cleaned the carb., cleaned the reeds the best i could. drilled the washer out of the tail pipe. took the limiter off the front pulley. cleaned up the plug. cleaned the gas tank, fixed the filter, got the oil tank off and cleaned up the frame and what not.

what a long day. after all that crap i put it back together and it didnt want to start. i put some oil in the spark plug hole, kicked it a few times, put the plug back in. and it started. it fired right up, would idle fine. on stand it would rew a good amount. so put the seat on it. and tried to go for a ride.

no power. it would go a foot then bog. i keep trying to see if it was just cold but it didnt seem like it had any power even after running for a good 3 minutes or so.

the fact that it started with oil in the spark plug hole is a sign of bad rings. how ever it runs on the stand some what. no power is also a sign of bad reeds. when i was looking over mine. if i looked real close i could see a very small gap. What do you guys think it is?

I'm betting on worn rings. Get this compression tester ($14.99):
