Choke assembly internals **LONG**

Post by Spreed »

Hi, can anyone help me with this, my Spree doesn't hold idle, and I will reclean the carb paying particular attention to my idle circuit, however before I do that, my choke assembly doesn't seem right. Can anyone tell me where the small spring (like the size of the spring you find in retractable tipped pens) goes inside the choke assembly tip? Currently, if I remove the brass collar that the choke pin goes through (honda calls it a valve) off the choke assembly, there is a small spring inside it, sitting between the blunt end of the pin and through the plastic nipple to whatever is inside the black plastic piece. But my gut feeling tells me that this setup would have the spring constantly pushing the pin's head (blunt end) against the seat of the collar, therefore pushing the pin as far into the carb as it can go, so my choke is never working, even when cold, correct? so doesnt that mean the spring should go between the collar seat and the blunt end of the pin? i.e to assemble the choke, I would put the spring into the collar, thread the pin through the spring and the collar, then pop that assembly onto the black plastic nipple at the tip of the choke body? Also, this site:
http://www.scootertherapy.com/nqchokepage.html
shows a picture of the choke unit, but the pic on the left shows a large spring to the left of the choke tip. I don't have this spring anywhere near my choke, am I supposed to have that? and where is it supposed to be?
Someone please help me, I got this scooter pretty much in pieces and the previous owner was on crack when he tried to reassamble it. For example, he didn't have a fuel valve on it, just a Y splitter, with one fuel line to the carb and one to the vacuum nipple of the intake manifold. As soon as I filled the gas tank, fuel leaked in and filled the jug and dripped out the main crank bearing :x . Well, at least the bright side of this is that I am learning a lot about Sprees, one piece at a time...

GuitarJones: if your Spree runs, That's good news for me!

Vette76: so that spring pushes on the pin from behind? I guess a simple way to tell me which direction the spring is supposed to push (whether it is away or towards the carb) is if you could tell me how to assemble the choke tip if I had it in pieces. Thanks!

Yes mine runs, still having a little bit of an idle problem with it though. And sometimes it doesn't want to start when using the electric starter.

Hey, I think my Spree has a similar problem. When I pull the bystarter out, a spring and a small needle come out. It looks like the brass collar is lodged in the carb. I pulled it out, but it seems to hold another small pipe in place. This "pipe" goes into the bowl. I think I might be missing the brass collar. Is the collar supposed to move inside another collar that is lodged in the carb?
