Since it'll be a new plug you can let it warm up and then take your WOT run and hit the killswitch/turn it off with out letting up on the throttle and still get a good reading. It won't hurt anything to ride it back home afterwards, unless it is running extremely lean of course. Just make sure to check it before you start your scooter back up and head where ever..remember, you can let the engine cool before attempting to remove the plug as it can get quite hot..letting the plug cool down will NOT change the color although letting off the throttle before turning your scooter off willnate_lohs wrote:so you dont ride it around before you do the chop? you just put the plug in and go WOT ? if you were to ride it home after you did the plug chop without changing plugs would it ruin it?
man i wonder if im doing it wrong or if im just running that lean. i did one chop. and it was white just as it was before i put it in. so i reoiled my air filter and moved the clip on the needle for the throttle down a notch. did another chop and its still the same. i only rode 2 blocks when i did it though. but i rode it around a couple miles before doing the chop. btw i got a dio with 72cc bore. stock carb, with uni air filter, and number 100 jet. running premix 50:1.
after further inspection i compared the plug to a brand new one. it its not the same color as a new plug. its like a light creme or light tan color. is that too lean or just right? the old plug i removed was a nice light brown. will it get to a light brown just from doing a plug chop or is a light tan color ok?

plug color can be achieved in a 1/4 mile at full throttle, make sure once you hold it wide open for awhile, shut if off. if you ride it back home it might change. SO make sure when you do it, ride towards your home hehe!
also you can go to 40:1 mix. make sure you are using a pre mix oil, not a injector one. Always buy good oil, no weedeater stuff. I use only synthetic stuff like maxima castor 927. Is it a stock carb? im assuming it is, i think yo uneed to go bigger on the main. I use 100 for my stock bikes, but thats with a pipe.
light creme is getting close, you noticed that oiling the filter made it better,.. why? because your restricting the air flow thus making it richer. moving the clip around is like changing your mains in small increments.
Needle slip position.
the needles clip affects the the transition between the pilot and the main jett.

ok so i got a question. on my 96 im dumped the oiler and im now premixing all my gas. if im premixing all my gas does that mean i dont have to worrie about jetting?
like ill do a plug chop. looks a hair lean, ill add a hair more oil to the tank next time. to rich ill add a hair less. you get the idea.

More oil actually leans you out iirc just move the needle clip down a notch.Dac wrote:ok so i got a question. on my 96 im dumped the oiler and im now premixing all my gas. if im premixing all my gas does that mean i dont have to worrie about jetting?

I am not a mechanic, nor do I play one on TV. Actually my advice is probably worth slightly less than what you pay to view it.

In a spree which is not mixed, more oil does not mean leaner. You are confused and referring to a two stroke runing mixed gas. In such a two stroke the added oil makes the fuel thicker which makes less fuel travel through the jets. The oil never travels through the jets in a spree. Kenny is confused.
no he was talking to me. didnt you read what he quoted?
that was my post. the one he was talking about. no spree there.ok so i got a question. on my 96 im dumped the oiler and im now premixing all my gas. if im premixing all my gas does that mean i dont have to worrie about jetting?

I just did my first chop the other day and was left with the same results(the white plug) and I went for 2 mile WOT run and that was the resulting color..basically looking like brand new..I forgot to check it now after I've put on like 60 or so miles so I'll post back in the next few days as I'm not on much anymore. Either way I know mine is running just fine or maybe even a tad rich..hmm, I'm confusednate_lohs wrote:man i wonder if im doing it wrong or if im just running that lean. i did one chop. and it was white just as it was before i put it in. so i reoiled my air filter and moved the clip on the needle for the throttle down a notch. did another chop and its still the same. i only rode 2 blocks when i did it though. but i rode it around a couple miles before doing the chop. btw i got a dio with 72cc bore. stock carb, with uni air filter, and number 100 jet. running premix 50:1.

yea i know that it should be nice light brown. but im asking if it is running correctly should it get to that light brown after only riding a quarter of a mile? if it should then i am running too lean and i definitely need to upjet. or i could put the stock air box back on and down jet because ive got my biggest jet in it right now.

I checked the plug and after however many miles the color is still pretty light..I'm not liking it..A week ago I adjusted the throttle needle and put it in the bottom notch I believe as with the cooler weather to richen it up some as I know the colder weather leans the mixture I am running the standard ngk whatever # 6 plug and not the 4 for cold weather but that would make it run hotter and lean the mixture out more..I don't drive it too much so hopefully it'll be fine..if not big bore time
