nice find dac, i got my 88 elite e sb50p for $100 bucks, but mine ran. all i had to do was detune the carb, it was idling at 10mph. its liek the guy was tryin to burn the clutch out of it. mine is apart in my garage right now with a similar problem that is reoccuring, mine was caused by a rich oil mixture and it was fouling plugs every other week. Oh, if anyone has a 88 elite e sb50p intake manifold for sale, i might be interested, i need a spare incase i screw up the drill and tap process for the nos kit if i get it. www.boostbottleindustries.com

Dac wrote:cleaned the carb., cleaned the reeds the best i could. drilled the washer out of the tail pipe. took the limiter off the front pulley. cleaned up the plug. cleaned the gas tank, fixed the filter, got the oil tank off and cleaned up the frame and what not.

what a long day. after all that crap i put it back together and it didnt want to start. i put some oil in the spark plug hole, kicked it a few times, put the plug back in. and it started. it fired right up, would idle fine. on stand it would rew a good amount. so put the seat on it. and tried to go for a ride.

no power. it would go a foot then bog. i keep trying to see if it was just cold but it didnt seem like it had any power even after running for a good 3 minutes or so.

the fact that it started with oil in the spark plug hole is a sign of bad rings. how ever it runs on the stand some what. no power is also a sign of bad reeds. when i was looking over mine. if i looked real close i could see a very small gap. What do you guys think it is?
oh also there is no starter.

That there is fiberglass reeds ;) A very slight gap would be normal.

I very much doubt the reeds are your problem. Althought it wouldn't hurt to replace them if you can do so for cheap.

Carbon fiber reeds here, looks like 4pack for stock reedblock:

Vt cycles would probably have some stock replacements for cheap as well.

And if you're wondering new rings are $25 and new clips $5 direct from honda dealer. Just got mine in the other day. :)

i dont care about the oiler. my question is what is the best thing i can do for it . i want it to be fast but i dont have 500$ is there a mid grade set up i can get thats not a bore ?
like one pipe that will help allot even on a stock bore? like if i get clutch and hp variator and a pipe will i be hitting 45 or so? or anything combo thats not the HUGE package.
i think 50 is a good speed for me but i still want take off. is there a in-between? stocks is to slow. but i dont want to hit highway speeds.

Find cheap/used 70cc cylinder, port it properly. ~$50-120

Port match intake manifold.

Tune carb, and tune transmission: go slighly lighter on rollers. ~$5-10 for rollers, ~$5per main jet.

And if you can, find a cheap/used dio exhaust, they're out there. $60-100

That simple setup should have you doing 50mph no problem imo.

ok so the rings were not bad. but the piston had one real deep groove in it. about the same in the cylinder. My step dad and i cleaned up everything the best we could and put it back to gather. ( We did the same thing on my 92 elite and it still runs good to this day.) it was kinda hard to start at first. no gas and it wouldn't start. anything over a hair it wouldn't start. it had to be barely on to get it to start.
After playing with the carb. some it would start first kick . the compression is a world of a difference. the take off was amazing up till 15mph or so (the speed-o cable is broke. 15 is my guess) then nothing after that. it would spit and sputter and slow or spit and sputter and not speed up any more.

Another day, another problem.

i just came accross some sad news...the honda elite 50 sb50/sb50p does not have a tunable transmission, so the dont really make performanceparts for that moddle, so do you think a tranny from a 88 sa50 or se50 would fit my 88 sb50, or would i be better off leaving my sb50 stock and finding a different scooter to tune up
