Piston Rings

Post by Black Thunder »

Broke a ring on a '86 NQ50. Called my local dealer and he said it would be about 2 weeks to get new rings because it's such an old model.

Has Honda really changed the piston ring design that much for their 50cc engines? Could I tell him that I need a set for a newer model that he might have in stock?

Any help would be appreciated.

about every different year and model of moped has a differnt ring. there are more then one factor when it comes to rings. theres cylinder size. ring hight, how far the rings stick out. how the ends close over the pin.
this is one of the things honda is right about. but wow. 2 weeks. honda normal can get stuff in 3 days. if you have to wait get 2 sets for next time. its what i do

I'm not certain, but there may be a significant difference between rings for 2-stroke and 4-stroke as well. All of the 50cc motors from the 80's were 2-stroke, now they're pretty much all 4-stroke.
