I have an 87 elite 50. Got it free in almost running order. Had a bearing fail and had to replace it which involved removing the engine and breaking it down.... It ran fine for a little while after this but then developed some sort of electrical short/glitch in one of the parts somewhere.
Seems like it'll accelerate fine up until 20mph or so then it might bog down(not mechanical feeling but electrical). Sometimes i can get it up to 30mph but it doesn't last long. When it does in fact goes into this electrical tantrum the headlight goes dim.
I don't want to say this for sure but in the rain a while ago it felt like i was getting a slight electric shock through the break handle. I've checked every wire i could and can't find one being grounded on something.
Battery is new with clean connections. I also needed to replace the oil pump(this caused the bearing to fail) I also have cleaned the carb multiple times. I had a mechanic do the bearing replacement who i trust a lot so i don't think that has anything to do with it. Just another part failed or a wire being grounded.
I thought it might be the stater motor but it checks out fine. I know it's kinda hard to understand but i figured i'd give it a shot. If need be i can probably take a short video of it doing it. If you need any more info let me know.
Sporadic acc. along with headlight brightness fluxuations
