Best way to get oil out of foam?

Post by fireblade »

My scooter fell over, and i didn't see it for almost a week. When I rited it, I found that the oil had all seeped out of the cap vent. But worse still, it has laid in the plasic of the seat base, and seeped underneath the seat covering and into the foam. I've pulled all the staples out, and removed the cover. So what's going to be the best way to get the oil out of the foam? I thought about throwing it in the washing machine, but because the foam is so absorbant, it might not work. (Plus my missus would shoot me, I already broke her machine once)
Suggestions please?

Gas.

Cleans foam aircleaner elements, should clean up a seat just fine.

Might also try xylene. That air dries quicker and does not smell as bad as gas. Just let the seat dry out real well.

Dawn Liquid Dish Washing soap, lots of elbow grease and hang it up to dry for a few days.

Yeah I mite have to try that. I think anything solvent based will attack the foam. However dishwash will leach what little oil is left in the skin in my hands. I supose I'll have to suck it in.

It takes grease "out of your way" (and they do make rubber gloves).
