Change rear tire HELP! How to take off rear wheel?

My back tire on my 2001 honda elite just recently got flat while i was driving to campus. Just bought some 3.00x10 tubeless Cheng Shin tires. Does anybody know anything about replacing the tires? do i need to take off the wheel to replace the tire?

Dont bump threads, Remove the side panels and muffler, from there you can just pry off the tire with some big screwdrivers.

It is soooo much easier if you take the whole wheel off. I recently changed both my front and rear tires. If I had to do it again, I could have the whole thing done in under an hour.

sorry about the bumping, yea i took off the muffler trying to make getting the lug nut off the wheel, but i can't get that nut to turn. i just tried with an adjustable wrench and hitting it with a hammer because i dont have a socket that size. I think i'm going to just give up and take it to a mechanic and have him pull the wheel off.

You need impact tools.

Use a breaker bar for more leverage. You might also need to wedge a board in the rim to keep it from spinning while taking the bolt off.

Slide the breaker bar over your wrench and give it a try. A good 2foot breaker bar will make it so much easier to take off the nut.

Update**

Ok...after about an hour of using two screwdrivers i was able to pull off rear tire and tube without pullling off the wheel....pain in the *. Had to pull off the muffler for access though. Then i pulled the tube out of my parts elite and was somehow able to get the new wheel and old tube on, with a couple of blisters to show for it. I probably should have replaced the tube but i will do that later, just want to get this one mobile again. Had to take to a quick oil change shop to have them fill it up with air since every gas stations pump nozzle was too big. I rode it around, and realized that its not properly aligned on one side...possibly not inflated enough to make the tire seal all the way? Going to take tomorrow to a tire change place and see if they can adjust it. Thanks ya'll for help/suggestions

Dude, if you were already at some joint with tools, just have them take the wheel off. If you can get the wheel off, you can replace the tire and tube in just a few minutes. It's not that hard with the wheel off. I wouldn't even bother trying replacing the tire with the wheel on, although it is technically possible, it is SOOOOO much easier the other way.
